Early Life and Education

Rt. Hon. Dir. Sunday Olisemeka, widely known as Sir O or Val Sunny Olisemeka, was born on February 14, 1988, in Amata Ezinesi Oduma, Aninri, Enugu State, Nigeria. His birth on Valentine’s Day inspired his internationally recognized name, Val Sunny Olisemeka, which has become a respected brand in entertainment, media, and politics.

He attended Community Primary School, Ezinesi Oduma (1993–1998) and later gained admission into Ezinesi High School, Nanwu Ezinesi Oduma (now Oduma Special Science School) through a Federal Government national scholarship scheme. He served as Senior Prefect for three years, making history as the school’s second-ever Senior Prefect and a pioneer leader.

After graduating in 2004, he tragically lost his mother, Mary Ani Augustine, his only surviving parent after the death of his father, Augustine Aniukpai, in 1997. Despite these hardships, his intelligence earned him the nickname "Professor" among his peers.

Religious Devotion and Community Leadership

From a young age, Sunny was dedicated to Catholic Church activities. He was recognized as one of the most brilliant Mass Servers at St. Anthony Parish, Oduma. His leadership also extended to community service, where he co-founded "Igba Akwuna Eche Enyi" with Anthony Anytime, Ikechukwu Orji, Sylvester Otugo, Cletus Egbo, and Deus.

Higher Education and Challenges

Sunny gained admission to UNILAG to study Mathematics and Computer Science, but financial constraints following General Sani Abacha’s death led to the discontinuation of his full scholarship, forcing him to drop out. Undeterred, he enrolled at NOUN in 2007, graduating in 2013 with a Second-Class Upper in Physics and Computer Science.

Currently, he is in his final year at NOUN, pursuing a degree in Film Productions and Designs, and is also enrolled in a Master’s program in Film Animation Designs at UNN (University of Nigeria, Nsukka).

Cinemedia Film Academy and Rise in Nollywood

In 2010, Sunny founded Cinemedia Film Academy, which has trained numerous Nollywood stars. He officially joined Nollywood on August 18, 2004, but gained prominence in 2009 after releasing his Afro Hip-Hop album, "Tachie Osa", featuring Flavour N’abania, Lord Cornel, and Waga G.

His directorial excellence was recognized when he won the "Best Nollywood Film Director" award from 2019 to 2022, conferred by Nollywood Government. In 2016, he was inducted into the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN).

As a versatile actor and film producer, Sunny has numerous movie credits to his name, further solidifying his influence in the Nigerian film industry.

That same year, he hosted the largest international award of excellence, attracting attendees from the UK, USA, Canada, India, China, Ghana, Cameroon, and other nations at Nike Lake Resort, Enugu. A major highlight was the Best Breakthrough Actor award, which came with a ₦2 million cash prize and a Ford Explorer SUV, won by Elvis Ogbonna.
