Nelson was a son to me. He was so close to me in all sense down to my family. On Saturday, I was with him at a wedding in Enugu. He told me that his attention was needed at home over security matter. God is my witness. As if I knew what was going to happen I reprimanded him insisting he should stay. But he told me to allow him go that as the councilor it will amount to failure on his part not to attend the security meeting. I pandered to him and allowed him to leave. Later on early hours of Monday morning I got a call from Chijinkem asking me if I saw what was on Facebook about Nelson? I became alarmed and said I hadn't. Then he broke the news. I literally died. As I write I am in anguish. When I gathered myself, I began to dig. It was then I learnt that he and his youth task force saw the wanted criminal and arrested him and handed him over to the police. Later in the night, some gun wielding men stormed his house in Eha Alumona. He was able to escape but they pursued him. He ran as far as he could for over a kilometer and then jumped into a walled compound (believing that his attackers won't dare come into the place). They did, go him and shot him on the waist and heart region. Nelson bled to death. Help came from No where. Even one of the neighborhood chairmen that was reached early enough declined intervention that the area Nelson was aren't his jurisdiction. Too bad. Chijioke Edoga during his condolence visit to the family of Late Hon. Ofunwa. In a video captured during the visit, the Labour Party Gubernatorial candidate claimed the late Hon. Sylvester promised him that his ward was solidly behind him. This statement has caused uproar within the ranks of Councillors and our party as it has portrayed the late Hon. as working for Edoga, which will be tantamount to anti-party. it is very unfortunate that Late Hon. Nelson Ofunwa cannot speak for himself at the moment. The entire 260 ward councillors of Enugu state have risen at this moment to put up this public statement and speak up for our late. Hon. 1. I want to state unequivocally that there has never been a time that our late brother who in his life has been a solid and verified member of PDP in anyway supported Labor Party for governorship.
