Prominent Leader, Chief Vincent N. Akpa (Ononenyi), Laid to Rest in Grand Ceremony at Umuenem Ezinesi Oduma
Ezinesi Oduma, Nigeria – December 28, 2024: The final journey of the esteemed Chief Vincent N. Akpa, fondly known as "Ononenyi," was marked by a grand burial ceremony in his hometown of Umuenem Village, Ezinesi Oduma, Enugu State. Chief Akpa, the father of His Royal Majesty Igwe Daniel O. Njoku, Chairman of the Traditional Rulers' Council in Aninri Local Government Area, was celebrated as a patriarch who lived a fulfilled and impactful life. He passed away at the age of 84.
The event drew an impressive gathering of dignitaries from various walks of life, underscoring the high regard in which Chief Akpa was held. Among the distinguished attendees were the Executive Chairman of Aninri Local Government, Hon. Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku; Hon. Chief Anayo Onwuegbu (Omeiheukwu), the member representing Awgu, Aninri, and Oji River Federal Constituency in the National Assembly; and Senator Osita Ngwu, representing Enugu West Senatorial District.
The legislative arm of Aninri Local Government was well-represented, with councilors led by Rt. Hon. Igwe Philip, Leader of the House and Rt.Hon. Sunday Olisemeka majority leader paying their respects. Traditional leaders, including all the kings and princes of Aninri, attended in a show of solidarity. The burial ceremony also witnessed the majestic presence of His Royal Majesty Igwe Nevobasi Cyprian, Agunese I na Mmaku Kingdom and Ogirishi Igbo, who led a colorful entourage.
The ceremony began with a solemn funeral service officiated by His Most Reverend Bishop Benson NDUBUISI Chukwunweike, the Anglican Bishop of Awgu/Aninri Diocese, who extolled the late Chief Akpa's exemplary life, his unwavering commitment to his community, and his dedication to the principles of peace and progress.
Chief Vincent Akpa was a respected community leader, a unifying figure, and a beacon of wisdom for Umuenem Village and beyond. His contributions to the development of his community and his commitment to the preservation of cultural heritage were celebrated during the service. Eulogies from family members, traditional leaders, and political figures highlighted his enduring legacy of leadership and service.
The burial ceremony reflected a blend of tradition and modernity, as cultural performances interspersed with tributes showcased the rich heritage of the Ezinesi Oduma community.
