Innovative Meeting Between Enugu State Comedians and Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Sparks New Era in Entertainment

In a groundbreaking move aimed at redefining the landscape of entertainment in Enugu State and the Southeast at large, the Association of Enugu State Comedians and MCs (ASESCOM) held a strategic meeting with the Hon. Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Barrister Ugochi Mmadueke.

The high-level engagement, which lasted an intensive two hours, was led by the President of ASESCOM, Comr. Philips Odih C., and attended by key members of the association. The meeting focused on a comprehensive brainstorming session centered around the future of entertainment in the state, with a special emphasis on comedy, creative arts, and cultural integration.

The interaction marked a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts between the entertainment industry and the state government, underscoring the commitment of the administration of His Excellency, Dr. Barrister Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Executive Governor of Enugu State, to elevate the creative sector as a strategic tool for economic development, youth engagement, and tourism promotion.

Commissioner Mmadueke reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to promoting indigenous talents and supporting platforms that empower entertainers to thrive both locally and internationally. She expressed optimism that this partnership will unlock new opportunities for content creators, comedians, event hosts, and other creative professionals across the Southeast.

According to ASESCOM President, Comr. Philips Odih, the meeting is a bold step toward achieving sustainable synergy between stakeholders in the entertainment ecosystem and government institutions.

“What we experienced today is nothing short of visionary. The Commissioner’s openness to ideas, her clarity of purpose, and her passion for culture and entertainment were deeply inspiring,” he stated.

A screenwriter, seasoned actor, professional filmmaker, and esteemed lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Prof. Nkem has become a household name in the Nigerian film industry through consistency, humility, and excellence.

From his early days as a writer and continuity personnel, to becoming one of the most decorated directors and producers in Nollywood, Prof. Nkem’s journey is a masterclass in dedication and grace. His early directorial work, Divided Attention, captured hearts and laid the foundation for what would become a legendary career. Today, even as he celebrates his birthday, he is on set filming the highly anticipated and emotionally charged movie, Throes of a Widow — a testament to his unrelenting passion for storytelling.
